Bach’s Lunch: A Mountain in Miniature: Exploring the Irish Musical Tradition through the Lens of a Single Tune

March 7 @ 12:10 pm - 12:50 pm

The Irish folk music tradition encompasses a wide range of regional variations, instruments, and influences. In this lecture, CCMS faculty member Dan Faiella will select a single traditional Irish tune, and use it as a window through which we can view the tradition as a whole.

By listening to live and recorded performances of the tune, we will track the tune’s development through the last hundred years, explore how different instruments have altered the shape and character of the tune, and learn about influences ranging from Baroque to jazz improvisation.

This event is free and open to the public. The Bach’s Lunch Series is made possible in part through the generosity of the Walker Fund.
