The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is an essential tool for singers, providing symbols that represent specific speech sounds—especially helpful when singing in multiple languages. This course introduces the IPA as it applies to English. Students will learn the basic symbols, how to read and use IPA, and how to apply it to song texts. Participants will demonstrate their skills through guided exercises and repertoire examples. Some outside practice may be required. Future courses will explore IPA for other languages.
