Dr. José Lezcano presents a free Bach’s Lunch Lecture, “Latin American and Spanish Guitar: The Hemiola as World Traveler,” Thursday, March 1, 12:10pm, at Concord Community Music School. In this talk, accompanied by live and recorded music, Lezcano explores musical genres from Spain and Latin America that share a common rhythmic DNA—the hemiola. Using examples from Renaissance and contemporary Spain, and from Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba, and other Latin American nations, Lezcano’s narrative encompasses themes of migration, nostalgia, cultural memory, and the role of music in binding diasporic communities together.
Bach’s Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month, November through May, in the Music School’s Recital Hall, 23 Wall Street, downtown Concord.
The Bach’s Lunch Series is sponsored by The Timothy and Abigail B. Walker Lecture Fund and The Couch Trusts; TD Wealth Management, NA; Trustee.
