We are excited to introduce a new puppetry program to the Music School, with Jonathan Cross, AKA “Jonny Clockworks” of Bee Skep Puppet Theatre. Puppetry links the visual, performing and musical arts together in a fun and exciting way.
The Bee Skep Puppet Theatre aims to tell tales that explore humanity’s interconnectedness, celebrate community, and illuminate our place in the natural world. We seek to transform base materials into spiritual gold, as the bee transforms plant pollen into golden honey that feeds and sustains the hive, and the world.
The program will run for 14 weeks, and will culminate in a theatrical performance opportunity. Tuition includes all materials.
Paper Puppets and Shadow Play
Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00 PM
September 27, 2023 – January 17, 2024
Ages 6-12
In this introductory course, we will explore physical theatre, rhythm and movement, as well as learn to craft colorful, creative puppets with paper, cardboard, scissors, and glue. In addition we will explore creating puppets of shadow and light, using hands, 3 dimensional objects, and crafted silhouettes. Our semester culminates in a performance, bringing your handmade creations to animated life.
About the Instructor
Jonathan Edward Cross, {aka Jonny ClockWorks}, returned to his native New Hampshire following a 33 year theatre career in NYC. His Cosmic Bicycle Theatre company and The ClockWorks Puppet Theatre were recipients of several Jim Henson Foundation Grants, and UNIMA-USA award for excellence in puppet theater, an Off-off Broadway Review Award, and a PIF Award overseas. He is launching The Bee Skep Puppet Theatre to serve Concord and the greater New Hampshire, through classes, camps, and original theater productions by our professional company. Our classes aim to inspire and empower students to create original works. From conception, through construction and performance, our students learn to hone their skills and develop works using a range of creative craft and theatrical techniques.
