President's Welcome
July 2009
"I played some great music on an instrument that I love with four awesome students and one equally awesome director, and we had a very good time." Every summer, we hear summaries of a musical year from our graduating seniors. They could be speaking for all of us on the faculty, as we treasure friendships that are closer because of our shared musical communication.
Musical connections - between parent and child, jazz guitarist and classical pianist, or 97-year-old drummer and teenage bass player - are sometimes predictable, sometimes surprising. A lifetime of music-making has blessed me with friends I might never have known except through music. And every day at the Music School I take great pleasure in watching new connections being formed.
That's what the "community" in our name means. We hope you'll join us, whether your dream is to master an instrument, play in an ensemble, sing to your grandchildren, or join your 2-year-old in sharing music. We invite you to make music with us and join in the friendships.
Sincerely,
