C-Dornin-March-2011-promoConcord, NH -- Concord Community Music School is pleased to announce that Catharine Dornin, a member of the Music School’s piano faculty, has been chosen as a semi-finalist in both the solo and concerto divisions of The American Prize in Piano Performance for 2011. The American Prize, founded in 2009, “provides recognition and reward to America’s finest performing artists, ensembles and composers, based on recorded performances.”

Ms. Dornin gave her Boston debut in 1986 and her Carnegie Hall debut in 1990. She has performed with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra, the NH Philharmonic and the Lakes Region Symphony, most recently in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. She has also appeared on NH Public Radio, NH Public Television, WKXL radio and “NH Chronicle” on WMUR-TV. In 1996 she was the featured pianist in the Public Television documentary, “Mac Dowell: An American Artists’ Colony.” She also appeared with former Governor Jeanne Shaheen, national poet laureate Donald Hall and other celebrities in a Statehouse multi-media show celebrating the Concord Monitor’s release of its book on state heroes, The New Hampshire Century. Ms. Dornin earned her Bachelor of Arts in music from Oberlin, studying with the internationally known pianist John Perry and completed further study with Jose Echaniz at the Eastman School of Music and currently studies with Dr. Ingrid Gutberg in Boston. Dornin is married to award-winning poet and journalist Christopher Dornin. They live in Concord, NH, and have five grown children and a grandson.

With a mission “to foster a sense of community through music…for people of all ages, musical abilities, and backgrounds,” the Music School welcomes adults, teens, and children, emphasizing the importance of ensembles and performance as well as individual instruction. It also partners with more than 20 New Hampshire schools, human service agencies, retirement homes, and public housing communities to bring musical participation to people unable to travel to CCMS through its Music in the Community Initiative (MICI).
